The Moscow City Court upheld the claim of the prosecutor's office and liquidated the Memorial Human Rights Center, a structural partner of OVD-Info.
In addition to the actual claims (the lack of a “foreign agent” label), the prosecutor’s office stated during the debate that Memorial grossly violates the rights of citizens: it is allegedly opaque in financial reporting, supports protests aimed at destabilizing the country, misinforms people using lists of political prisoners and creates a wrong opinion about the state.
The defense noted that the prosecutor's office uses language similar to the charges in the political trials of the Great Terror, criticized the examination on which the prosecutor's office was based on the position that Memorial is engaged in justifying extremism and terrorism, and accusations of gross violations of the law on “foreign agents” " Regarding the charges of justifying terrorism, lawyer Maria Eismont said the following:
Everyone has the right to doubt that, despite the charges being brought, they may be unfair! We are simply asking for a fair trial for Hizb ut-Tahrir (banned in the Russian Federation), and not calling them handsome, as one of the state media recently called the Taliban (recognized as a terrorist organization).
