The court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced five participants in the rally in Vladikavkaz

On December 29, the Voroshilovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced five participants in a rally against the self-isolation regime in Vladikavkaz to real terms. This is reported by the "Caucasian Knot".

Protest participant Mikhail Bestaev was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, Magomed Kantemirov and Artur Tsugkiev - three years and eight months in prison, and Gennady Sokurov and Georgy Farniev - three years and five months in prison. All the defendants were charged with an article on participation in mass riots (part 2 of article 212 of the Criminal Code).

On November 12, the Kirovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don announced the verdicts of five more defendants in the case of a people's gathering in Vladikavkaz. They were sentenced from three to four and a half years in prison.

All of them were also charged with an article on participation in mass riots, one person was also accused of using violence against a policeman (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code).

• At a gathering in Vladikavkaz on April 20, 2020, about two thousand people demanded the resignation of the leadership of North Ossetia, and also announced the loss of work and income due to the self-isolation regime. The protesters were brutally dispersed by OMON officers, the security forces detained 69 people.
• More than 50 people became defendants in the case of the people's gathering. According to investigators, the action was organized by opera singer and COVID-dissident Vadim Cheldiev. He was sent into custody in April 2020, imputing several criminal articles at once. 58-year-old Ramis Chirkinov, according to the prosecution, was a subscriber of the Vadim Cheldiev telegram chat, where he allegedly called for participation in the April gathering. He complained about his state of health and the lack of proper medical care in the pre-trial detention center. The third person involved in the case, Vadim Besolov, according to the investigation, “acted as part of a criminal group with Cheldiev and Chirkinov” and published calls to go to a protest action.
