The Ministry of Justice added eight more people to the register of foreign media agents

The Ministry of Justice added eight more people to the list of “foreign agents” media outlets. This was reported on the website of the department.

The list includes editor-in-chief of Kholod magazine Taisiya Bekbulatova, Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Veronika Nikulshina, Radio Liberty journalist Ivan Belyaev, gallerist, publicist and art manager Marat Gelman, correspondent for Sever.Realii Elena Vladykina, writer satirist, The New Times columnist Viktor Shenderovich and the founder of the film club "Oil" and the project "Rage" Andrey Alekseev.

• In 2014, film entrepreneur Andrey Alekseev opened an independent cinema "Neft" in Yaroslavl. There, among other things, documentaries on socio-political topics were shown, and opposition politicians arranged meetings with local residents. In 2020, the cinema was closed due to pressure from the authorities. In addition, in 2018 Alekseev launched the historical project Fury, dedicated to the anti-Bolshevik uprising in Yaroslavl.
• Currently, there are already 75 individuals in the register of mass media - "foreign agents".
• At the end of December 2020, the State Duma adopted changes to the legislation on "foreign agents". According to the new clarifications, the status of a "foreign agent" can be obtained by an individual engaged in political activities and receiving money from abroad for this. Another draft law prohibits the dissemination of information from “foreign agents” in the media without a special mark. The tightening of legislation continued in February 2021.
