Ex-coordinator of Navalny's Krasnoyarsk headquarters asked for political asylum in the USA

Daniil Markelov, a former coordinator for Navalny's Krasnoyarsk headquarters who also worked for Navalny's headquarters in Novosibirsk, has requested political asylum in the United States. This is reported by the telegram channel "Sibirmedia".

Earlier, Markelov left Russia for fear of political persecution. “As long as a president like Putin is in power, life in the country will not get better one iota, but only worse every day and for everyone. If you are ready for this, continue to fight, if not, leave,” the opposition leader told reporters.

Markelov also stressed that Navalny's team helped him with the move.

• In 2020, Daniil Markelov ran for the Novosibirsk City Council from the Novosibirsk-2020 coalition. During the campaign, unknown people broke his electoral cubes. With the choice of the activist was withdrawn due to problems with signatures: several people who supported him later changed their registration retroactively.
• Markelov is also one of the defendants in the lawsuit filed by the Novosibirsk police. In October, law enforcement officers demanded 2.8 million rubles from local oppositionists as compensation for the work of security forces at rallies in support of Alexei Navalny in January 2021.
