Eyewitnesses reported dead and wounded in clashes in central Almaty
Clashes broke out between protesters and police near Republic Square in central Almaty. A TASS correspondent from the scene reports that people fleeing from the Republic Square spoke about the dead and wounded as a result of the clashes.
Officially, the authorities have not yet commented on the information about the victims.
Telegram channels, including SHOT, have circulated a video allegedly filmed in central Almaty on January 6. The sound of gunshots is heard on the recording.
Since the beginning of January, mass protests have been held in Kazakhstan, they began after the decision of the authorities to raise fuel prices for cars.
Due to the protests, a state of emergency was declared in the country and a curfew was introduced. The authorities of Kazakhstan asked the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to send peacekeepers to the country. As the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced on the evening of January 6, the first planes with Russian paratroopers and military equipment have already arrived in Kazakhstan.
