Pensions in Russia will be indexed by 8.6%

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to index pensions by 8.6%. He stated this at a meeting with the government, reports . Interfax

According to him, the decisions taken earlier will not allow people to cover the costs associated with increased inflation. “I propose <…> to index pensions even slightly above inflation. Now it looks like 8.4%. By 8.6% - with a small gap, because there are no final inflation figures yet, ”he said and asked the government to carry out all the necessary procedures related to this decision as soon as possible.

• According to preliminary data from Rosstat, inflation for 2021 accelerated to a record high since 2015 - 8.39%. In 2020, it was 4.9%, and in 2019 - 3%.
• Prior to this, indexation of pensions at the level of 5.9% was planned. At a big press conference on December 23, Putin said that the government should fulfill its promises to index pensions above inflation.
