In Germany, ex-officers of the special services Assad received a life sentence

On January 13, the German court sentenced his life imprisonment without the right to pardon the former colonel of the special services of Syria of the 58-year-old Anvara Raslan.

According to the prosecutor’s office, in 2011, when anti-government protests began in Syria, he was a colonel of Syrian intelligence and led the torture of prisoners in the Damasian prison of Al-Khatib, known as “Hell on Earth”.

Derenna is accused of involvement in 4,000 cases of torture, 30 murders and three episodes of sexual violence. Lawyers called for justifying the client, claiming that he was under huge pressure and was not free in his decisions.

The plaintiffs in Anvara Derenna were 24 people. Another 50 Syrians testified against him in court.

The ex-colonel did not plead guilty. The German prosecutor's office insists that the contribution of the accused of the crime is due to his position in the prison hierarchy.

In the dock, there was also a former subordinate of Derenna, 43-year-old Ijad A. Verdict in his case will be made later.

Last year, within the framework of the same process, the German court sentenced to 4.5 years in the conclusion of the Ejad al-Garib, accused of involvement in the arrests of the opposition.

All of them came to Germany after the start of protests in Syria as refugees and asked for political asylum. In 2018 - 2019, they were arrested.

According to lawyers, by its verdict the German Criminal Court found the regime of Bashar al -Assad guilty of committing crimes against his own citizens.
