A Moscow court arrested two alleged REvil hackers

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow arrested alleged members of the REvil hacker group Roman Muromsky and Andrey Bessonov. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow courts.

They are suspected of illegal circulation of means of payment (Part 2 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code). The court sent Muromsky and Bessonov under arrest until March 13.

Earlier, the FSB reported on the detention of 14 REvil hackers who were charged under the same article. The names of the other hackers are unknown.

The intelligence service emphasized that the reason for the arrest was the appeal of the US authorities about the leader of REvil and his involvement in the distribution of the malicious program. According to the FSB, hackers developed malware and stole money from the accounts of foreigners.

REvil , also known as Sodin and Sodinokibi , distributed its program through partners. Members of the group hacked large industrial enterprises, encrypted data and demanded ransom, for example, from Acer in 2021 and the largest producer pork and beef JBS .

In July of that year, REvil's darknet sites disappeared. The New York Times and the BBC linked this to a telephone conversation between Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin. The Biden administration said that the heads of state discussed stopping cyber attacks from groups based in Russia.
