The court again extended the arrest of a Crimean Tatar activist accused in the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case
The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don extended the arrest of Emil Ziyadinov, a Crimean Tatar activist and children's coach accused of involvement in Hizb-ut-Tahrir, for three months. It is reported by "Crimean solidarity".
During the meeting, the state prosecutor asked to extend the arrest of Ziyadinova for three months in connection with the charge of "committing two especially serious crimes, with the possibility of imposing an uncontested sentence in the form of imprisonment for a long period." In addition, the prosecutor considered that since the activist “has the citizenship of another state, then being at large, he can hide from the court and interfere with the proceedings.”
The defense, in response, stated that the prosecutor did not give specific arguments and facts about why the activist could hide. “Ziyadinov has never tried and is not trying to hide from the court, the judicial investigation is actually completed, and the presence of foreign citizenship in itself is not a reason to believe that Ziyadinov will hide,” said Ayder Azamatov, the activist’s lawyer.
Ziyadinov's term in the pre-trial detention center was extended until May 3.
The activist is accused of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparing for a violent seizure of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code) in connection with alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb-ut- Tahrir". Previously, he had already extended his arrest until 3, November 2021 and 3 February , 2022.
Emil Ziyadinov, as well as defendants in other cases of involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir - Ismet Ibragimov, Vadim Bektemirov, Alexander Sizikov, Alim Sufyanov, Sayran Khairetdinov and Zekirya Muratov - were detained in July 2020 . Sizikov, as a person with the first group of disabilities, was sent under house arrest, the rest were sent to a pre-trial detention center.
