The authorities of St. Petersburg intend to solve the problem with untimely garbage collection in the city in the near future. This was announced by vice-governor Valery Pikalev.

Pikalev said that the government and the governor are aware of the situation, “control” it and “do everything possible”. He added that the law enforcement agencies are carefully studied, and responsible persons will be punished. According to RIA Novosti, Pikalev also tied the collapse with the fact that the garbage collection was not able to agree on the replacement of the container park with the previous operator, and the new regional operator allegedly did not fully study the routes.
