A French explorer dies trying to cross the Atlantic by boat for the second time.

French traveler Jean-Jacques Saven died during a solo voyage in a rowboat across the Atlantic Ocean.

Savena's capsized boat was found near the Azores, about one and a half thousand kilometers from Portugal, where on January 1, the 75-year-old traveler began his voyage. Prior to this, Saven released two emergency buoys that gave distress signals.

“Unfortunately, this time the ocean turned out to be stronger than our friend, who loved swimming and the sea so much,” Saven’s Facebook page says.

Jean-Jacques Saven rose to fame in 2019 when he single-handedly crossed the Atlantic in an unmanned barrel-like capsule. It took him 122 days.

He expected to complete the new journey in three months and called his project "a way to laugh at old age."
