Retired Chechen Supreme Court judge Saidi Yangulbaev, whose wife Zarema Musayeva was forcibly taken from Nizhny Novgorod by Chechen security forces, has left Russia with his daughter Aliya, the human rights organization Committee Against Torture reports.

Earlier, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov , called the Yangulbayev family “accomplices of terrorists” and demanded that they be detained, “and if they resist, then destroyed.”

The judge's son, Abubakar Yangulbaev, commenting on Kadyrov's statements on Dozhd , appealed to the Russian president with a proposal to change the leadership of Chechnya.

On January 20, armed masked men who identified themselves as Chechen law enforcement officers broke into the apartment of Saidi Yangulbaev and Zarema Musayeva in Nizhny Novgorod. They showed a warrant to bring the family to Chechnya as witnesses in a fraud case, after which they forcibly took Musayeva away. Yangulbaev himself was not taken away, as he showed a judge's ID.
Another son of the judge, Ibragim Yangulbaev, said that their family was being persecuted because he was an administrator of public pages that openly criticized the Chechen authorities. According to him, back in 2015, he, his father, and his brother were kidnapped and taken to Kadyrov's residence, where they were beaten and tortured, including by the head of Chechnya himself.
The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov , said that the Kremlin will not look into the situation with the kidnapping of Zarema Musayeva, considering it a “fantastic story.”
