VTB specialists have identified phishing pages that allegedly offer their customers the opportunity to buy tickets to popular concerts and performances online, using the transfer of employees of many large companies to remote work.
Using social networks, instant messengers, dating sites and e-mail, scammers send ads through a fake sales site, where the client is asked to fill out a phishing payment form, the bank's press service said. It includes the personal and contact data of the user, as well as the details of his bank card.
As a result, instead of buying tickets, the client subscribes to a website with accounts controlled by the attackers. Then, funds are debited from the buyer's bank card in the amount of 5 to 20 thousand rubles with a difference of 10-15 seconds. Transactions take place as long as the balance on the buyer's card remains positive.
VTB experts also record an increase in the number of fake resources on training programs for making quick money on the Internet or on the stock market. To motivate the client to transfer funds as soon as possible, the page owners promise significant discounts or personal consultations on condition of urgent payment.
According to VTB anti-fraud experts, a new wave of the pandemic, during which companies transfer up to 50-70% of their staff to remote work, has become the driver of numerous fake offers with online services. Their owners strive to take into account the desire of customers to receive various services remotely or to find sources of additional income. With any purchases on the Internet, it is important to be vigilant and check the resource to which you are going to provide your personal data and in no case fall for the tricks of scammers.
VTB reminds customers to use only trusted sites so as not to compromise card details, and to check the link before clicking on it. Phishing links can be checked with antivirus software. If the site on which the purchase was made seemed suspicious, you should immediately block the card through VTB Online or by calling the bank.
