On January 23 and 25, research was conducted in the diagnostic center to several patients, after which six people were hospitalized. On January 26, the Investigative Committee announced the death of two of them-a 60-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man. A day later, the department announced another deceased.
A criminal case was opened about causing death by negligence. The Office of Roszdravnadzor began the verification and suspended the use of barium during the investigation. The prosecutor's office took this case for control. Later, the head physician of the hospital Yevgeny Popov was detained. He was accused under two articles - "causing death by negligence" and "providing services that do not meet security requirements."
Barios to the medical center was supplied by Neva reagent. The head of the company Arkady Kamchatov said that a sulfate barium was delivered to the hospital, which is used only for production purposes. Kamchatkov emphasized that the contract with the medical center does not say that barium will be used for medical purposes.
