Shares of Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms, were down more than 26% at the opening of trading on the New York Stock Exchange. At the close of the exchange, one security was worth $237.76, which is 26.39% less than at the close of the previous trading session.
Meta's market value is down $251 billion. This is the largest one-day decline in market value for any US company in the history of the stock market, according to Bloomberg. In the last trading session, the capitalization of Meta was over $900 billion, now it is just over $660 billion.
Meta shares plunged after the release of Meta's fourth quarter 2021 financial report, which showed an 8% decline in net income to $10.28 billion. Meta also reported that Facebook's daily active users have dropped for the first time in the social network's 18-year history.
