This date can be considered the reference point of the Kafkian process, inside of which were Julia and Anna, as well as children-actors, students of Julia.

More than 250,000 signatures were collected in support of Julia-more than residents of the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

21 января 2021 года «Российская ЛГБТ-сеть» (признана иноагентом), сообщила, что ФСБ участвует как минимум в трех делах о «пропаганде нетрадиционных сексуальных отношений», что «согласно положению о ФСБ, не входит в перечень обязанностей ведомства». По данным организации, с писем ФСБ начинались дела Алексея Павлова из Набережных Челнов и дело Юлии Цветковой.

Театр «Мерак», режиссером которого была Юлия Цветкова, был прежде всего театром про рефлексию и соучастие каждого человека. Юлия писала, что «театр должен быть таким, каким его хотят видеть дети. Мне хотелось сделать театр, в котором все получают удовольствие уже во время репетиций. У нас не было конкуренции и элиты. Роли сами возникали или давались по близости с темой. У нас не было главного актера и четкого распределения ролей».

В работе студии использовались методики современной театральной педагогики, например, социального форум-театра, разработанного в 70-х годах режиссером Аугусто Боалем, театра, в котором любой человек в зрительном зале может стать актером на сцене и изменить ход действия и конфликта.

Общественное требование освободить Юлию Цветкову способствовало в 2020 году заявлению уполномоченной по правам человека в РФ Татьяны Москальковой о том, что дело у нее «на контроле». 29 июня 2021 года Европейский суд по правам человека зарегистрировал жалобу Tsvetkova vs. Russia, в которой Юлия и Анна просят суд признать, что РФ нарушила в отношении Юлии статью о свободе выражения мнения, право на справедливое судебное разбирательство, право на уважение частной и семейной жизни и статью о запрещении дискриминации (во взаимосвязи со статьей 10 Конвенции о защите прав и свобод человека).

Сейчас в связи с новыми судами и экспертизой делу Юлии Цветковой необходима новая волна огласки.

Недаром в поддержку Ю. Цветковой высказывается очень широкий спектр общества — от М. Пиотровского и М. Швыдкого до В. Познера и К. Собчак, от Русского музея и Третьяковки до Государственного института искусствознания и Российской академии художеств.

Многие понимают, что это, по сути, Салемский процесс. Что после него может быть объявлена охота на ведьм, и следующими жертвами в таких процессах могут быть любые другие художники, актеры и режиссеры, касающиеся в своем творчестве табуированных тем. Что наше право смотреть на фигуры Давида или Венеры Милосской без купальных принадлежностей — это не данность, за него надо бороться.

Собственно, эта борьба и объясняет длительность процесса. Полагаю, нам удается сохранить ситуацию, при которой судам необходимо использовать уголовно-процессуальное законодательство по его прямому назначению. Я сохраняю иррациональную веру в силу закона и стараюсь делиться этой верой со своей подзащитной и с судом. Это непросто и не всегда успешно, но как есть. Я верю, что это процесс с открытым финалом».
