A Swedish company has filed a lawsuit against Google for $2.4 billion over search results.

Swedish price comparison service PriceRunner has filed a lawsuit against Google in a Stockholm court, reports . Bloomberg

As PriceRunner explained, the lawsuit is based on an EU court ruling that Google manipulated search results in favor of its price comparison services. In 2017, the European Commission decided to fine 2.4 billion euros for abusing its dominant position in the search engine market, and in November last year, Google lost an appeal in court.

The amount of the claim is about 22 billion crowns ($2.4 billion). The ultimate damages in the lawsuit will be "significantly higher" as the breach is still ongoing, PriceRunner notes.

The service intends to seek compensation from Google for lost profits: in the UK - since 2008, in Sweden and Denmark - since 2013, specifies Reuters . It is a question of the survival of European companies, as well as employment opportunities in the technology sector, said Mikael Lindahl, Chief Executive Officer of PriceRunner.

Google spokeswoman Emily Clark said the company will defend its position in court. “PriceRunner chose not to use Google ads, so it may not have had the same success that others have,” she said.
