Oscar - 2022: Nominees

The leaders of the “power of the dog” and “dune” are leading. The Russian cartoon also claims to be a reward. Anton Dolin - about what to expect from film award

Los Angeles declared nominees for the Oscar Award, which in 2022 will be held on March 27. In 12 nominations, the film “Power of the Psa” claims (her director Jane Campion became the first woman in history, twice nominated for Oscar for directing), Denis Vilnev was nominated in 10 categories. The “Belfast” Kenneth Bran and “Westsay history” by Stephen Spielberg in eight nominations. About what to expect from Oscar in 2022, says Anton Dolin.

All sensations recede with a clear joy - in the five nominees in the category of “short animation”, the fifteen -minute cartoon Anton Dyakov “Boxbale” fell. In general, our animators at Oscars are lucky more than directors of the feature cinema: Konstantin Bronzite (“We cannot live without space”, 2014) over the years has become one of the favorites of American academics, and the last Russian, who received a figurine, is Alexander Petrov from Yaroslavl (“Old Man and the Sea”, 1999). But the picture of the Finnish director Yuho Kuosmanen “Cup number six” with Yura Borisov in the title role, which included in the short list of the prize, did not fall into the final list of nominees.

There are not so many surprises “Oscar-2022” so far. Perhaps the main one is the Danish animated documentary “Escape” (“Flee”) of Jonas Poer Rasmussen, based on the real story of a refugee from Afghanistan: he left his native country after realizing his homosexuality and gained love in Denmark. All forecasts converged on the fact that the Oscar could not pass by this bright picture, and still amazingly: “Escape” got into the nomination at once in three categories - “International Film”, “Full -length animation” and “Documentary film”.

Another surprise, also associated with the desire of the Oscar, be not so much American as the World Prize, is the extraordinary success of the drama of Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguti “Sit on the wheel of my car” along the short story of Haruki Murakami. This three -hour leisurely film, which has already become the event of a Cannes festival , received four nominations, including for the script, directing and the film of the year (and in the category of "International Film").

At the same time, the long -standing favorite of the Academy Pedro Almodovar was left without personal nominations: his “parallel mothers” were noted only for the music of Alberto Iglesias and the acting work of Penelope Cruz.

Lady Gaga, contrary to expectations, did not get into the Oscar list, the Gucci House was awarded only the nomination for makeup. But the title of the best actress is claimed by the pressed by the press Kristen Stewart, who played Princess Diana in the drama of Pablo Larrain “Spencer” (the picture has no other nominations).

The absolute leader of this year, in the number of nominations, was the revisionist western of New Zealand Jane Campion “Power Power” with Benedict Cambertchine (he and his colleagues Codi Makfi, Jesse Streons and Kirsten Dunst received a personal nomination): 12 references. The same was, for example, at the Schindler list in 1994.

The victory of the “PSA power” in the main category is quite likely, especially when taking into account professional experience, Jane Campion (in 1994, she already received an Oscar for the script of the film “Piano”). Perhaps this is the first serious chance of the film -composer and Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood to get a long -honored Oscar for the soundtrack.

On the other hand, academicians still do not like experimenters, and therefore the figurine can also go to Hans Zimmer, who wrote music for the Dune. Many will be surprised, but the science fiction environmental epic Denis Vilnev is in second place after the “PSA power”: 10 nominations. If the Dune suddenly wins, then for the first time in history the best film of the year will be named, in fact, the first half of this film.

The third place in the number of nominations was divided by Stephen Spielberg with an elegant “Westsay history” and Kenneth Bran with a nostalgic “Belfast” - each has seven references. They are already followed by the bona fide “King Richard” Reynaldo Marcus Green (six nominations), “Do not look up” by Adam Mcakey and the “Alley of Nightsmares” Guillermo del Toro (each for four).

The outsiders were expected to be the “licorite pizza” by Tomas Anderson, the film is too individual and eccentric to get into the leaders: he has only three references, albeit in the most honorable categories - a script, directing, and the best film. The author of Magnolia and Oil stood in one line with relative newcomers - Maggie Gillenhall with her nervous psychedama “Unpretation Daughter” and Sian Heder with the winner of the Sandance festival, the tape “Coda: a child of deaf parents” (also three nominations).

Oscars will be handed on March 27.
