The prosecutor requested 6 years in prison for the head of the Reutov "Yabloko" Yevgeny Kurakin

The prosecutor requested 6 years in prison for the journalist and leader of the Yabloko party in Reutov, Evgeniy Kurakin, accused of fraud. This is reported by SOTA.

Kurakin is charged with fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code). The criminal case against Kurakin has been dragging on since 2012 and periodically becomes the reason for the journalist’s detention and interrogation.

Kurakin's defense believes that the case was opened because of his successful activist activities and political position. In 2013, Kurakin was able to win a court case against the developer Tsentrstroy-M and oblige him to eliminate shortcomings during the construction of a house in the amount of 80 million rubles. In addition, the activist has repeatedly openly criticized local officials and judges.

• Yevgeny Kurakinwas detained in the summer of 2019 before the start of the election campaign for the Council of Deputies of the Reutov urban district, thereby preventing him from participating in the elections. The Memorial human rights center recognized the prosecution of Kurakin in this case as politically motivated.
• In August 2019, the Reutovsky Court of the Moscow Region decided to return the materials of the case of Evgeny Kurakin to the prosecutor's office. In November, the case was again sent for consideration on the merits, but the defense and prosecution asked to change the jurisdiction of the criminal case. In December, the jurisdiction was changed to another court in the Moscow region.
• A criminal case under the article of fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code) was opened against Kurakin back in 2012. The reason for initiating the case was allegedly the debt of the HOA, of which Kurakin was the chairman, to the heating network. Since then, the activist has been periodically detained under various pretexts related to the criminal case.
