On February 8, the Volgograd Regional Court approved the verdict for Mikhail Kolotilin, a follower of the Tablighi Jamaat movement. This is reported by the Information and Analytical Center "SOVA".
On December 2, the Soviet District Court of Volgograd sentenced Kolotilin to three years in prison under the article on organizing the activities of an extremist organization (part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). The convict will serve his term in a general regime colony.
- According to Sova, in the summer of 2020, six people suspected of organizing a “cell” of Tablighi Jamaat were detained in the Volgograd region. According to media reports, they seized "extremist literature, as well as other documents confirming their involvement" in a movement banned in Russia.
- The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA Information and Analytical Center, this ban is unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and has not been seen in any calls for violence.
