An 18-year-old member of a banned religious organization was arrested in the Stavropol region in connection with the preparation of a terrorist attack

In the Stavropol Territory, an 18-year-old alleged member of a banned religious organization was placed under arrest in the case of preparing a terrorist attack in Novopavlovsk. This was reported by the regional department of the Investigative Committee.

According to investigators, the Stavropol resident wanted to blow up “one of the infrastructure facilities” of Novopavlovsk. In the spring of 2021, he “prepared a place to lay” explosives and bought a TNT stick, the Investigative Committee said.

At the same time, according to investigators, the young man recorded a video swearing an oath to a banned organization (which one was not specified) and published the video in the messenger. Security officials say the youth also tried unsuccessfully to recruit local residents.

The young man is accused of preparing a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30, Article 205 of the Criminal Code), illegal production and storage of explosive devices (Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code), recruitment (Part 1.1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and participation in an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code ).
