Good evening,
THIS MESSAGE (MATERIAL) IS CREATED AND (OR) DISTRIBUTED BY A FOREIGN MASS MEDIA PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONS OF A FOREIGN AGENT AND (OR) A RUSSIAN LEGAL ENTITY PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONS OF A FOREIGN AGENT
this is Meduza's daily newsletter about the most important things that happened during the day. And we will start, as we did last time, from the table of Vladimir Putin. A few days ago, the entire Internet thought that the table was longer than the one separating him and Emmanuel Macron simply could not be - but how wrong we all were. Today, Putin met with Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Shoigu already at a different table - and they (incredibly!) sat even further away from him than Macron. See for yourself .

On February 11, the White House said that Russia could attack Ukraine at any time - for example, before the end of the Olympics. According to Western media sources, February 16 was named by the allied countries as the expected date for the start of the invasion. The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, called the statements of the Americans hysteria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urged not to panic. At the same time, on February 12, dozens of countries recommended that their citizens leave Ukraine or refrain from traveling there. We have collected all the main things that happened around Ukraine over the past couple of days .
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced that he had decided to leave the post of President of Turkmenistan. Elections to elect his successor are scheduled for 12 March. Berdimuhamedov did not name a successor, but everyone is sure that the only son of the president, Serdar, will become the successor. According to experts, the transition of power from Berdimuhamedov Sr. to the younger one has been taking place over the past few years and reached the “final straight” a year ago, and only the deteriorating economic situation and the growing discontent of the country's population can prevent this .
Yekaterinburg is the center of Soviet constructivism in the Urals. A special place on the map is occupied by the residential complex of the NKVD, better known as the Chekist Town. In the 2010s, these 14 buildings were even proposed to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the same time, very little is known about the author of the Chekist Town. His name is Ivan Antonov, aka Juhani Antonoff. February 11 marked the 135th anniversary of the birth of this Finnish architect. Meduza tells how the life of a man who presented Yekaterinburg with its main sights and was forgotten for many years developed .
The Ukrainian crisis could still escalate into a direct military clash. More than 20 countries have advised their citizens to leave Ukraine, and Western media write that a full-scale invasion could begin as early as February 16.
In the new issue of What Happened, we talk with Maxim Samorukov, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Carnegie.ru, about why none of the previous agreements on Ukraine are working, who benefits from the continuation of the conflict, and what is the real reason for the confrontation that has been going on since 2014 .
