The court overturned the sentence of a veteran of the Crimean Tatar movement on appeal

The Supreme Court of Crimea overturned the sentence of the head of the Sudak regional Mejlis, Ilver Ametov, in the case of possession of weapons. The case was sent to the district court for a new trial. This is reported by the "Crimean process".

Earlier, the activist was found guilty of illegal possession of weapons (part 1 of article 222 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced to eight months of restraint of liberty.

“The judge took into account the arguments of the defense about the numerous violations committed by the court of first instance, in particular, regarding the examination of the element of firearms seized from Ametov,” said lawyer Alexei Rostovtsev.

• On September 27, 2019, Ilver Ametov was searched, during which an old weapon was seized from his private historical museum: a Nagant revolver, a Schmeiser assault rifle and two guns. He had documents for the storage of exhibits. The search was carried out with a check in a criminal case under articles 238 of the Criminal Code (circulation of goods and services that do not meet security requirements), 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremist activity) and 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity).
