
At the Moscow Region Championship in the U-17 category that ended at the Ramensky Borisoglebsky Sports Palace, Zhukovsky badminton players not only won several medals, but also successfully qualified for the Russian Championship. And the best among Irina Kazakova’s students were the results of Andrei Sokolov, who climbed to the podium in two categories.

In the individual tournament, the Zhukovsky resident became the champion, leaving no chance for his competitors. On the way to the title, Sokolov beat Daniil Borgoyakov (21:4, 21:5), Daniil Dulin (21:7, 21:10), Yaroslav Martynov (21:16, 21:14), Ilya Kozlovsky (21:16, 21:19) and Ivan Volkov (21:10, 21:14).

The athletes from the Meteor school expected to win another “gold” in doubles, but after a series of victories, Sokolov and Vladislav Prosekov lost in the final to the second-seeded tandem Volkov/Lyadov (8:21, 21:23). The future champions lost in the semi-finals to Zhukovsky's Valery Starostin and Egor Bnatov from Voskresensk, who became bronze medalists.
