The State Duma adopted a law to toughen punishment for those who harbor pedophiles

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted in the third reading a law toughening penalties for harboring serious crimes against children, as well as for similar crimes using the Internet. This was reported on the website of the lower house of the assembly.

Concealment of grave crimes committed against children under the age of 14 will be punished with imprisonment of up to one year.

The law also provides for liability for committing crimes against the sexual inviolability of minors using the Internet. In this case, pedophiles will face up to six years in prison.

“Often, violence against a child, using his position, is committed by a person on whom the victim depends,” wrote State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin on his Telegram channel.

An aggravating circumstance will be considered if the crime is committed by parents, guardians or teachers, as well as people living with the child.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on life imprisonment for recidivist pedophiles.
