The British Home Office announced the abolition of “golden visas” against the backdrop of “Russian actions towards Ukraine”

The UK is considering canceling its golden visa program within a few weeks, the Financial Times reports , citing government officials.

Interior Minister Priti Patel fears the system could be used to obtain illegal funds, officials said.

The Financial Times writes that the UK authorities have returned to discussing the issue of issuing "golden visas" after "Russia's actions against Ukraine."

According to the publication, the government issued 798 visas to investors in the 12 months to September 2021, 82 of them to Russians. During the same period, 210 visas were issued to Chinese citizens.

Earlier, the country's authorities announced the completion of a report on Tier 1 investor visas for citizens of Russia, China and Kazakhstan, among others, drawn up amid concerns about the circulation of illicit funds.

The day before, Ukraine requested international assistance from NATO in case of "large-scale emergencies of a different nature that may affect the civilian population." Due to fears of an "invasion", about 40 countries have already called on their fellow citizens to leave Ukraine.
