The Ministry of Justice has added to the register of mass media - “foreign agents”

The Ministry of Justice added to the register of media outlets - "foreign agents": New Year's Release LLC and Process 2021 LLC were added to the list. Information about this is published on the website of the department.

New Year's Release LLC is the legal entity of Radio Liberty journalist Ivan Belyaev. Process 2021 LLC is the legal entity of the founder of Important Stories Roman Anin.

Both journalists were previously recognized as “foreign agents”: Belyaev on December 30 , Anina on August 20 , on the same day the Important Stories publication was added to the register.

• At the end of December 2020, the State Duma adopted changes to the legislation on "foreign agents". According to the new clarifications, the status of a "foreign agent" can be obtained by an individual engaged in political activities and receiving money from abroad for this. Another draft law prohibits the dissemination of information from “foreign agents” in the media without a special mark. The tightening of legislation continued in February 2021.
