Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee to initiate a criminal case on the fact that a shell hit the territory of Russia.

On the night of February 19, at four o'clock in the morning Moscow time, according to sources from TASS , RIA Novosti and Interfax , a shell exploded in the Tarasovsky district of the Rostov region, a kilometer from the state border of Russia and Ukraine. The explosion occurred 300 meters from one of the houses in the village of Mityakinskaya (25 kilometers from Lugansk). There were no injuries or damage as a result of the rupture. Who fired the projectile is unclear.

Sources of information agencies also reported that another shell was found in the Tarasovsky district near the village of Mityakinskaya. According to Interfax , this is a Soviet-era 120mm incendiary projectile. Sources of TASS and RIA Novosti say that this is ammunition from the Grad multiple launch rocket system. This has not been officially confirmed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said that the armed forces of Ukraine did not fire at the territory of Russia.

The village of Mityakinskaya has already been shelled by Ukraine in past years. In August 2014, the media reported on numerous shells that exploded 300 meters from the village.
