US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in principle, "agreed to hold a summit to discuss the situation around Ukraine, representatives of the Champs Elysees said on Sunday. At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were no specific plans for the event yet.

The official statement of the Chancellery of the President of France, made after the telephone conversations of Emmanuel Macron with Vladimir Putin and Joe Bayden, talks about the "readiness of the presidents" to hold a meeting. However, it will take place - only "if Russia does not invade Ukraine."

The press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki confirmed the existence of a preliminary agreement: “We are always ready for diplomacy. We are also ready for an emergency and harsh answer if Russia has chosen a war instead. At the moment, apparently, Russia continues to prepare for a full-scale attack on Ukraine, which can happen very soon.”

The agenda of a possible meeting at the top will be prepared by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at their previously planned meeting on Thursday, the Chancellery of the President of France said.

As Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said, the Kremlin “does not exclude the possibility of“ negotiations between the presidents, but at the moment there are no specific plans for organizing the Summit Putin and Biden, and it is “premature” about him. Peskov also said that on Monday Putin will hold an extraordinary meeting of the Russian Security Council.

The Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that he was welcoming the initiative to hold a summit in Kiev, adding that he was hoping for agreements on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the border of Ukraine.

According to the NBC television company with reference to sources in the Biden administration, there are information at the disposal of American intelligence that the Russian military command was given an order to readiness for the invasion of Ukraine. This information became the basis for Biden's statement on February 18 that Putin decided to invade Ukraine. The Russian side denies the presence of such plans.
