Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of "DPR" and "LPR"

According to the results of an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the recognition of state independence of the so -called Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

"I will immediately recognize the sovereignty of the DPR and the LPR. I ask you to support the decision and ratify the contracts on friendship and mutual assistance. The documents will be prepared and signed in the very near future," Putin said.

The leaders of the "republics" Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik asked about this in order to fully withstand "the military aggression of the Ukrainian authorities and to prevent sacrifices among civilians."

The State Duma deputies also turned to Putin to recognize the “DPR” and “LPR”. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called this a game of raising bets and warned that Kyiv’s recognition of the republics would perceive as a unilateral exit from the Minsk agreements, which will follow new EU sanctions against Russia.

The heads of the European Commission and the European Council said that Russia recognizes independence by independent states of pro -Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine is a violation of international law. The European Union will be responsible for the recognition of the LPR and DPR by Russia, ”said the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyain.

The Prime Minister of Estonia said that the Kremlin is closing the door for diplomacy and creating an excuse for the war. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also called Russia a violation of international law. “I think this is a very bad omen,” he added.

US President Joe Biden will soon sign a decree prohibiting investment in the DPR and LPR and trade with them. "We expected such a step from Russia and are ready to react immediately," the White House said.

Syrian President Bashar Assad said that Damascus will be ready to recognize the so -called "LPR" and "DPR".

He also held urgent consultations with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Sholts. Vladimir Putin also had negotiations with European chapters, he told them that he was going to sign a decree on the recognition of the independence of the “DPR” and “LPR”.

• "DPR" and "LPR" were proclaimed by separatists in the spring of 2014. Russia then did not recognize them, however, according to Ukraine and the Western countries and numerous evidence, including the separatists themselves, was provided by the DPR and LPR, including military. As a result, the separatists retained control over part of the territories of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions. At the same time, they formally apply claims to all territories of these areas, including controlled by Ukraine.
• In 2015, the Minsk agreements, which Russia obliged to comply, do not provide for the independence of the “DPR” and “LPR” - according to the documents, certain areas of the “republics” must, in compliance with a number of conditions, return to Ukraine control.
• In 2014, Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula according to the results of a referendum, which was carried out contrary to the legislation of Ukraine and after the peninsula was taken under control by the Russian military.
• Kyiv and Western countries consider this a violation of international law and introduced economic sanctions against the Kremlin officials. Moscow called the annexation of the peninsula "restoration of historical justice."
