To the premiere of the new high -budget (according to some estimates , in $ 1 billion) of the Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for several months, but the passions around it are already boiling. The catalyst for a stormy discussion was the first trailer for the show shown during the Super Bowl. Tolkien’s fans, accustomed to white and mainly male casting in previous adaptations, were unpleasantly struck by the “inclusive” of the future series: in particular, they were outraged by the selection of actors for the role of forest elf Arondir (it will play the Latin American Ismael Cruz Crusa) and the princess of the diesa (Sophia Nomvelight, the first Black actress in Tolkinovsky adaptations).
Some potential spectators decided that this was caused by the desire of the authors of the series and Amazon Studio “bend under the agenda”, and considered this a clear disrespect for the spirit and content of the Tolkien universe. One of the typical reviews of dissatisfied on Twitter looks like this:
“Beta Sams and Alfa Samka. This series is a voki (progressive) retelling of Tolkien. ”
Others welcomed the variety of actors and expressed a suspicion that indignation was caused by latent racism and mizogia:
The commentators are: “No, that you, we are not racists, we just decided that the series would turn out to be a sagging because we saw a poster with a black actor.”
