You cannot start your story about Nikulichev’s house without history about the place where it is located. The village of Ustye on the Kuben River is rich in legends - you immediately feel when you come here.
One of the main pearls of the mouth is a spas-stone monastery. According to legend, the monastery was founded in 1260 by the Belozersky prince Gleb Vasilkovich. He was taken to the shore of the island in a terrible storm. In honor of his salvation, he commanded to erect a temple here. The history of the Savior-Kamenya deserves a separate post, today it is restored by volunteers, so you have the opportunity not only to visit the island, but also to participate in the work, leaving a piece of your history in this place!
There is no exact date for the emergence of the village of Ustai-Kubenskoye. It is believed that it appeared from three villages - Ustye, Petrovka and Lahmokurya (according to legend, this means “Bay, where breams are found”). The first mention of the mouth was in the second half of the 16th century. Around the same time, the king himself visited the village - Ivan the Terrible. They say that the purpose of his visit was a spas-stone monastery, but the troubled lake prevented the king. He spent a couple of days in the village and could not get to the island. In honor of the fact that this land remembers the heels of Tsar Ivan IV, they even erected a monument on the embankment of the river.
In addition to Ivan the Terrible, Peter I visited the village. One legend, he was looking for a place for the construction of the fleet. However, Peter was very upset by the small depth of Lake Kubensky, calling him a puddle by his eyes. It is also believed that the purpose of Peter's visit was planning waterways through Usty-Kubenskoye.
Already in the XVIII century, the mouth is a noble village with developed trade. By the way, the village could become a county city, but the Ustyansk merchants themselves opposed this. This did not prevent the village from developing further. The mouth was waiting for the real industrial revolution, it was with it that the history of the Nikulichev family and their home will begin.
The exact date of building the house is unknown to us. According to the documents received in the Committee for the Protection of Monuments of Culture, the end of the construction of the house is listed in the 1910s.
Initially, the house belonged to the Nikulichev family, but immediately after the revolution the mansion was nationalized and given to the state farm office. Almost the entire history of existence in the house was conducted by financial and economic activities serving the needs of a large agricultural enterprise. Here was the accounting department, the office of the chairman, the laboratory and the box office. In the post -Soviet time, the focus of using the house did not change.
There are several legends and evidence that describe what the house was initially. One of these legends says that the house was the famous Ustyansk merchant baths. Most likely, this version is true, since in one of the premises on the ground floor numerous water taps in the basement and traces of the furnace were found, and in the basement a massive pipeline of the diverting sewage system.
The house has a very unusual architecture and a rich decor - obviously, the owner of the house was inspired by Western buildings and instructed the architect to build something similar for himself.
