The publishing house Fifth Rome published a new, corrected and supplemented edition of the famous book of the Israeli historian Aron Schneer . Soldiers and officers of the Red Army in German captivity ” (for the first time the book was published in Russian in Israel in 2003).
In the head of the “Chronicle of Defense” , an excerpt from which we publish with the kind permission of the publishing house, it is told about the strategic decisions of the Soviet command, as a result of which hundreds of thousands of soldiers and officers of the Red Army were surrounded, and then captured in captivity. In many cases, these people were simply abandoned to the mercy of fate.
Aron Ilyich Schneer is a specialist in the history of World War II, the author of many books and publications, a researcher at the National Institute of Memory “Yad Va-sho” (Jerusalem).
