Tomsk libertarians applied for a rally against the war in Ukraine

The Tomsk branch of the unregistered Libertarian Party of Russia (LPR) submitted a notice to the city mayor's office to hold a rally against the fighting in Ukraine. The event is planned to be held on March 12 on Novo-Cathedral Square.

The “special operation in Ukraine”, as the apogee of aggressive policy, led to a global crisis. From prices in stores to news about dead loved ones - one way or another, the consequences are already overtaking us <...> We all know those responsible for the current madness - they are not hiding. We have the right to demand their resignation and trial. We have the right to gather together and see each other,” the decision maker said in a statement.

The organizers say the purpose of the rally is to demonstrate citizens’ disagreement with the actions of Russian troops in Ukraine. The protesters will also demand an immediate end to the war in the neighboring country, the impeachment of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the criminal prosecution of all those involved in the decision to start hostilities.

The protest action is scheduled for 14:00; according to the notice sent to the mayor's office, the approximate number of participants in the rally is estimated at one thousand people. The organizers noted that they “have almost no doubt that the administration will not approve this rally,” without explaining whether they were going to hold the event in this case.

Since February 24, when it became known about the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Tomsk residents continue to go out on anti-war pickets, some of them are detained by the police. The security forces came to one of the protest participants the very next day after the picket; she was accused of violating the rules of participation in the protest (Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).
