EU countries decided to abandon energy from Russia - Reuters
The European Union countries will gradually abandon Russian oil, gas and coal, because they do not want to depend on Russia amid security threats. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the draft declaration for the Summit of the EU countries.
The text says that countries intend to "take further decisive steps to strengthen our European sovereignty, reduce our dependence and develop a new model of growth and investment for 2030."
It is noted that for Europe this is a turning point since Russia supplies about 40% of the total gas to Russia, more than a quarter of the total oil and more than half of the coal. At the same time, the deadline for refusing supplies from Russia is not indicated. EU countries to varying degrees depend on supplies from Russia. To a greater extent, the dependence on energy resources is observed in Germany, Austria, Italy and Hungary.
Earlier, the European Commission stated that it was necessary to abandon Russian raw materials "long until 2030." It is planned to diversify supplies using pipelines from other countries, as well as by increasing the supply of liquefied gas.
