Sugar export banned from Russia until August 31

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Victoria Abramchenko announced in a telegram that she had approved the acts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the ban on the export of white sugar and raw sugar from Russia until August 31, 2022.

Also, until June 30, the export of wheat, rye, meslin , barley and corn from Russia has been banned. However, the export of grain will be allowed "within the quota for individual licenses," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

"For our partners in the Eurasian Union, sugar exports will be possible based on individual decisions by the Ministry of Agriculture. The list of exceptions also includes deliveries to the LPR and DPR," said Victoria Abramchenko. She added that this is a temporary measure that "will help maintain prices."

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, there was a high demand for sugar in Russian regions, which is why retail chains introduced restrictions on the sale of goods to one person.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade claims that there is no sugar shortage in Russia, and that supply disruptions arose because of intermediaries who “moved it to a warehouse and are waiting for our sugar price to rise by 50 percent.”
