The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to exclude Russia from the organization. This was reported by the Council website.
Earlier, Russia notified of the launch of the exit procedure from the Council of Europe. The Secretary General of the Organization of Maria Paychinovich-Burich was awarded the corresponding notification.
"The NATO and the European Union states, abusing their majority in the Council of Europe (CE), consistently turn this organization into an instrument of anti -Russian policy, abandoning an equal dialogue and all the principles on which this pan -European structure was created," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said .
The authorities assure that Russia's exit from the Council of Europe "will not affect the rights and freedoms of citizens." At the same time, residents of the country will lose access to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), explains human rights activist Pavel Chikov.
Also, due to Russia's entry into the Council of Europe in the country, a moratorium on the death penalty was introduced. The authorities intend to denounce the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibited this measure of punishment for a criminal offense.
