Russia became the first country in the history of the Council of Europe, which was excluded from this organization

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe excluded Russia from the composition of this organization. The corresponding resolution was published on the portal of the committee.

Now Russia has the full right not to observe any values ​​imposed by the West, for example, the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The entry into the Council of Europe at one time became the main reason for the abolition of the death penalty in Russia - the head of the Council of Security of the Russian Federation Medvedev already wrote that now this decision can be revised.

The decision to get out of CE was originally made by Russia and began the relevant procedure on March 15.

On the same day, the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) decided to exclude Russia from the organization. 216 deputies voted for this, no one voted against, three abstained. The decision was made against the backdrop of the special operation of the Russian authorities in Ukraine.

Russia has been in the European Council since 1996. Senator Andrei Klishas explained that Russian citizens from the country from CE will not be able to apply to the European Court of Human Rights.
