The former journalist of Vedomosti and the adviser to Roscosmos State Corporation Ivan Safronov said that after he recognized the prosecution, he only strengthened his rightness and did not lose, but only increased the sense of humor. He announced this in a letter to the journalist of Novaya Gazeta Zoe Sveta, which was published by the publication.
On March 21, the Moscow City Court will begin the trial in the case of Ivan Safronov, accused of collecting secret and top secret information, which he allegedly transferred to representatives of foreign intelligence on a “reimbursable basis”. Safronov was arrested on July 7, 2020. According to lawyers, the investigation was the journalist - he had never been given a date with relatives, the calls of his mother, sister and bride were forbidden, and also required guilty in exchange for calls and dates.
The journalist of Novaya Gazeta Zoya Svetova began to correspond with Safronov shortly after his arrest, and sent the last letter at the end of December - she received the answer only on March 15. In a letter, Safronov says that during the imprisonment he did not lose his sense of humor, but only increased him, became convinced that there was no corpus delicti in his actions, and also could not break and not to stipulate anyone.
Dear Zoya! I was very glad to get your letter - now I am answering. Recently I read in the "new" text and interviews with the wife of Kravtsov*. It was interesting! I am aware of his history and I believe that he and his family came out of all this difficult situation not only with dignity, but also by winners. I have a court ahead - I think that the first meeting will take place this month. I do not have any illusions, but I believe that at least a drop of prudence will still appear. I’m not just sure now, and I know 100 percent that there is no corpus delicti in my actions, unless, of course, to consider the journalism itself crime. Although, judging by what is happening in the country, I don’t know what to think. The last thing I would like to find out that journalism is recognized in the Russian Federation to be unwanted.
With great chagrin I took news about the Echo of Moscow and Rain. Although, probably, the word "grief" is not suitable for describing the entire spectrum of feelings.
Regarding the humor (in a letter, Zoya called on Safronov to maintain a sense of humor even in the most desperate circumstances - the note “Paper” ), it is not only preserved, but also increased - even under the very conditions in which I have to be in logic and common sense.
Lawyers will confirm: at every date we laugh, which is important.
It is important that, having finally learned what exactly they blame me for, I not only did not lose heart, but also only strengthened in my rightness, that I did everything right.
For me personally, it is also important that my conscience is pure - from and to. I did not break, I did not say anyone-I am defending my beliefs, and this is at least something.
Even now. Even in Russia.
I have some kind of inner understanding that everything will be fine-in the end, any term ends, and I have to look at the mirror for a long time in the mirror.
Give everyone a huge greetings!
With love and hope,
Your Vanya
