The British government has created a special unit to combat Kremlin disinformation, writes The Telegraph.
The department, formed in February on the eve of the war in Ukraine, was called the Government Information Cell (GIC), it included 35 employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and other government agencies.
According to The Telegraph, to promote London's position on the war in Ukraine, GIC bought ads on Russian social networks, including VKontakte.
The press service of the VK denied these data. “The information provided is not true. Promotion on our advertising platforms is subject to mandatory moderation. Only those ads that comply with the rules of VK and the legislation of the Russian Federation can be shown on VK resources and in the advertising network, ”the company’s press service told RBC.
