RKN issued a warning to Novaya Gazeta for mentioning a “foreign agent” without labeling; two in a year threaten to revoke media licenses

Roskomnadzor issued a warning to Novaya Gazeta for mentioning an NGO - a “foreign agent” without marking its status. The department's press service reported this to TASS.

Two written warnings from Roskomnadzor within a year are grounds for filing a claim in court to terminate the media registration certificate.

Failure to mention the status of an NGO as a foreign agent in journalistic materials entails a fine of up to 50 thousand rubles under Part 2.1 of Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“abuse of freedom of the media”).

In October 2013, the court, at the request of the RKN, revoked the license after two fines for a video with obscenities. In March 2014, the Supreme Court overturned this decision.
