The Ministry of Transport announced the arrest abroad of 78 aircraft of Russian airlines due to sanctions; in total there were more than 1,300

Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, 78 planes of Russian airlines have been seized abroad due to sanctions, Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev reported to the Federation Council. His words are quoted by TASS and RIA Novosti .

“There were 1,367 aircraft in the country across 111 airlines <…> We lost 78 aircraft, they were arrested during flights,” Savelyev said.

On February 25, the second day of the war, the European Union banned the sale of aircraft, spare parts and equipment to Russian airlines, as well as the provision of insurance and maintenance services to them.

After President Vladimir Putin allowed the registration of rights to foreign aircraft leased by Russian companies, “almost 800 aircraft” were transferred to the Russian registry, Minister Savelyev added.

The Federal Air Transport Agency said that there were 70 aircraft on the Russian registry before the imposition of sanctions.
