The Ministry of Digital Development advised mobile operators to abandon unlimited tariffs

The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media sent out a recommendation to Russian mobile operators to “exclude unlimited traffic consumption”, including introducing restrictions on unlimited tariffs and reducing the included Internet traffic in package offers.

As explained to RBC in the Ministry of Digital Development, “in the context of external sanctions pressure and reduced availability of foreign equipment, it is necessary to find a balance in maintaining and developing mobile networks.”

“We are taking measures to consume traffic wisely while maintaining the quality and availability of basic digital services and services,” a ministry spokesman said.

MegaFon and Tele2 called the proposal of the Ministry of Digital Transformation “rational”, without specifying exactly how they are going to follow the recommendation.

In turn, a source in one of the mobile operators told the publication that unlimited Internet will be removed from expensive tariffs, and if traffic somehow grows abnormally, the amount of gigabytes included in package offers may be reduced. RBC's interlocutor called the latter unlikely.
