The UN called on Russia and Ukraine to investigate videos showing the abuse of prisoners

The head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner, called on the authorities of both Russia and Ukraine to investigate cases of abuse of prisoners, CNN reports online.

“We saw videos of both Ukrainian prisoners of war who were captured by the Russian side and Russian prisoners of war who were captured by the Ukrainian side,” Bogner said at a briefing on Monday.

The UN, she said, is in the process of verifying these videos, but what is happening on them "cannot but cause concern."

The UN expects that both sides of the conflict will conduct a thorough investigation of what happened and bring those responsible to justice.
