The UN authorities called for the authorities of Russia and Ukraine to investigate cases of alleged bullying of the prisoners. It is reported by CNN.
As the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner, said at a briefing, the organization saw a video with prisoners captured by both the Russian and the Ukrainian side. Now the UN, according to her, checks these videos, but what is happening on them "cannot but cause concern." Any mockery must be stopped immediately, the UN representative emphasized, reminding Ukraine and Russia about their obligations under international humanitarian law.
Last weekend, videos appeared on social networks, which, presumably, are captured by Ukrainian troops torturing Russian prisoners. During the interrogation, they put bags on their heads with prisoners, and then shoot several of them at their feet. When and where the video was shot, it is unknown. The APU command called these videos staging. The adviser to the head of the presidential office, Alexei Armorovich, said on the same day that Kyiv "is seriously" and conduct an immediate investigation.
Earlier, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer called on the Russian and Ukrainian sides to handle the prisoners with dignity. In particular, he asked not to distribute photo and video materials with prisoners and civilians. Human Rights Watch also called for this.
The exact number of Russian military who was captured during the military operation in Ukraine is unknown. The Russian Ministry of Defense admitted that there were prisoners, but did not even call an approximate number. Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk said in an interview with TSN that there were 562 Russians in Ukrainian captivity. The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova applied to the International Committee of the Red Cross with a statement about more than 500 prisoners of Ukrainians, whom Russia is ready to exchange. It is not possible to verify these statements in the conditions of active hostilities.
