Baltic countries can close borders with Russia at the request of Ukraine

Ukraine is negotiating with Poland on the closure of the Polish border with Belarus. Also, the Ukrainian authorities turned to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with a request to close the borders for Russia and Belarus. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Andrei Deshchitsa.

"I think this decision will be made. Then you will not have to wait for the EU, and we will completely block any delivery to the Russian Federation," the ambassador said.

Earlier, the authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland called on the European Union to block sea and land freight transportation from and to Russia and Belarus. According to the ministers of the transport of these countries, Russia continues to daily receive dual -use goods, which are transporting thousands of Russian and Belarusian trucks and ships.

“The ban on the transportation of goods by Russian and Belarusian vehicles and the entry of the ships of the two countries in the ports will have the greatest effect if it is accepted at the EU level,” said the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Marius Skoodis.

The ministers also suggested that the European Union ban the courts with the Russian and Belarusian flag enter the ports of European countries and withdraw permission to international transportation of goods from both countries.
