The St. Petersburg State University commission recommended reprimanding 20 students detained at anti-war protests

A commission at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) has recommended reprimanding 20 students detained during protests against the war with Ukraine. This is reported on the university website.

The commission, which included the Deputy Rector for Legal Affairs, the Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, the deans of the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Law, held meetings with 20 students.

As the report states, 18 students said that “they were detained by accident,” two “due to personal experiences, they decided to go” to an uncoordinated protest. “At the same time, all students said that they would no longer participate in unauthorized events,” the university added. The students had no other penalties, so the commission recommended not expelling them, but limiting themselves to a reprimand.

At the beginning of March, the head of the Great Student Council of St. Petersburg State University, Mikhail Mochalov , said that the university was going to expel 13 participants in anti-war protests. About 500 scientists and students from Russian and foreign universities publicly spoke out against expulsions from St. Petersburg State University.
