Based on the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Roskomnadzor demanded that Wikipedia remove five articles about the war in Ukraine. Notifications from the supervisory authority are published in the Wikipedia section with a list of prohibited pages.
We are talking about the articles “Battle for Kiev (2022)”, “War crimes during the Russian invasion of Ukraine”, “Shelling of a hospital in Mariupol”, “Destruction of the Mariupol Theater (2022)” and “Massacre in Bucha”.
As Roskomnadzor noted , Wikipedia has become “a new line of constant attacks on Russians,” and the articles “promote an exclusively anti-Russian interpretation of events.”
“Recently, Wikipedia has begun to massively post materials that disseminate false information on the subject of a special military operation in Ukraine and the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. <…> The authors of articles posted on Wikipedia deliberately misinform users of the Internet resource with blatantly false information,” the department added.
On March 31, Roskomnadzor decided to draw up a report on Wikipedia due to its refusal to remove the article “Russian Invasion of Ukraine (2022).” The agency called it “false content aimed at misinformation of Russian users.”
