Employees of the Spanish Civil Guard, at the request of the US FBI, arrested the Tango yacht, owned by Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, in the port of Palma de Mallorca, Associated Press reports.
The owner of the Renova holding and the president of the Skolkovo Foundation fell under US sanctions back in 2018. With the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the American authorities decided to freeze his property.
On April 4, the yacht was searched in the presence of FBI agents, during which documents and computers were seized by law enforcement agencies.
The cost of the 78-meter yacht "Tango" is estimated at 90 to 120 million dollars. According to US authorities, Vekselberg acquired it in 2011 using front companies.
After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Western authorities imposed personal sanctions on many Russian businessmen and officials. As part of the implementation of sanctions in Europe, many yachts were arrested, which were used by the former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin, billionaires Alisher Usmanov, Alexei Kuzmichev and Andrey Melnichenko.
