(Conversation on the YouTube channel of Robert Wright, video here ; recorded on March 31)
Wright: Preparing for a conversation with you, I went through your entire telegram channel from the beginning of the operation, and I even have a note that you do not believe that there will be a movement, and what you think, whatever it will be, there will be a recognition, and there will be no war, and that Ukraine will remain.
Kashin: Yes, yes, and moreover, when at the last minute before the war, when a decision was made to recognize the DPR and LPR, I absolutely, as they say, by analytical mind or anti -um, because the main feeling of this month, in addition to the horror and disgust from what was happening, is the main feeling of what I personally turned out to be a fool, because the whole thing was inappropriately, and when, when, yes, and now, yes, yes, yes, and now, yes, yes, yes, and now, yes, and now I recognized the DPR and the LPR, I have absolutely such a conclusion, you read it-well, all, thank God, there will be no war, this is the end of an eight-year-old impotive, because this, of course, is what eight years said-why Moscow does not recognize the DPR and LPR, why this proxy-war is going on; If the Ukrainian armed forces saw not incomprehensible people, the “miners and tractor drivers” of those very, and literally the Russian army, of course, would not have been a war, because the war between Russia and Ukraine is the war between Ukraine and the Great Nuclear Power, so yes, it is impossible, I thought, and the recognition of the DPR and the LPR records the end of this eight -year half -north -coo -hape. And of course, what happened in the morning of the 24th, it destroys the whole performance, mine, at least about how the world works, how life is arranged, how the Russian state, Russian power and Russian reality are arranged, because-why I started with Crimea, this is a sign of the moment. I consider the Russian Federation to be a direct heiress of the Soviet government, connected with historical Russia, it seems to me, and therefore we are going through the experience of war, except the Great Patriotic War, the experience of the wars that the USSR and the Russian Federation waged. Wars and occupations. There were bloodless invasions, bloodless conquests at Stalin-this is Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Bessarabia-Bukovina in accordance with the pact; I read a lot of Baltic already modern literature, even their modern historians do not deny that a significant part of the population of these republics joyfully met with carats of Soviet tanks, because the leftist moods reigned there, and the alternative was understandable, that if Stalin did not win, we were won by Hitler, and the Baltic ones had a relationship in the First World War, and as if to the First World War I Nobody wanted to interact with them again. This is the conditionally positive experience, the legacy of which is Crimea, busy like in the forty year, Stalin occupied Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, there are no questions. And there is another experience - both the Finnish war, and partly Czechoslovakia, where Soviet soldiers died, without even having clashes with the real army, because the whole people were against them. Afghanistan, Chechnya, well, in general, understandable. And it was clear - okay there, 2014, when Ukraine was not there yet, but as it was strengthened by its self -awareness, it was clear that there would be no colors, there would be no caravavians. What in 2014 we saw - crowds on the streets of Kharkov, for example, people who are waiting for Russia - these people are no longer there, because the train of history has gone, and the Russian invasion will be really dramatic and nightmare, as, in fact, happened. And I will repeat my thought from one of the first texts at the beginning of the war-Vladimir Putin declared the war, of course, not so much to Ukraine as the Russian Federation, having literally let everything go downhill for twenty years, everything that was built for ten years in the nineties, the product of which he himself became, and in many ways this war, firstly, had already ended in the first minute by the defeat of the Russian Federation, and secondly, it had already destroyed that Russia in which Russia was already destroyed, We, including me, lived until the 24th. What is a country, in addition to borders, territories and authorities? This is an economy, this is a culture, it is a relationship between people. Many, many things. One of your like -minded people speaks with me in a conversation - well, yes, of course, life plans were destroyed there, family, but what is it, because we go to Kyiv. And I say - but Russia consists of life plans, of family. The country is people, and people are struck by people. Moreover, that conversation, a long-standing eight-year-old that in the southeast of Ukraine live Russian people who deserve to live in Russia-now these Russian people under the blows of Russian artillery and other types of weapons in a month, during the first hours of the war, they finally and irrevocably turned into Ukrainians, Vladimir Putin completed the civilian nation for Kravchuk, Kuchma, Yushchenko and others, with which they were not referred for thirty years, and for thirty years. Putin did it literally in the watch. And of course, this is forever, and if you refer to Dmitry Evgenievich Galkovsky, who said that Putin has a historical mission to finally divide the people into Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians - this is Putin coped with this mission. Already past tense, already perfect action.
Wright: February 24 (actually late in the evening of the 23rd, O.K.) You write: “Without welcoming bloodshed and military methods to solve political problems, I urge everyone not to forget about who is our conflict in this conflict. Russian soldiers - luck and strength. " What were the feelings except this understanding that, roughly speaking, your analyst turned out to be false? I also turned out to be false.
Kashin: Not analytics, Robert. Analytics - God would be with her. The picture of the world, which is formed in you literally from the first minutes of your life, and it takes place further from experience, and from observations, and from conversations, these are the forty -two years that I lived, they seemed to be fed on the 24th along with the rest of the reality. This quote, which is presented to me on both sides - the left say: here is the scum, welcomed the war, although it is literally written “I do not welcome”, and the right, on the contrary, say: here is a bastard, wished for the strength and luck to our soldiers, and now you do not want. No, this is precisely the drama - the side that is our in this war, it is ours, and will not go anywhere. And now our side, unfortunately, by the will of Vladimir Putin was plunged into this hell, or rather, into this mistake, which is worse than a crime. And they did not see either luck or strength, and now the desire is natural, at any moment, it doesn’t matter at what stage to finish. Dive troops, lost. They lost, starting this war.
Wright: That is, your position is an immediate withdrawal of troops?
Kashin: An immediate withdrawal of troops is a small part of the path at the beginning of which we are because a set of final goals is clear - so that everything is as before. So that Boomer-2 is going to the cinema, as they are now announced, but Batman, who did not go to Russia. In order for bank cards to work, planes flew - well, so that ordinary life. And it is clear that it will not be. Okay, the word "never" is bad, but it will not be many, many, many years. This is the first point - what you can want, what you can wish. So politically-what we watched with Medinsky, with someone,-with my destroyed experience of a political commentator gives an impression that everyone except Vladimir Putin, who completely flew off, understands in which hell and in what dead end the Russian state was. And in order to get out of it, you need to finish this matter immediately, leaving for the previous position. A separate conversation is what the previous positions are. The boundaries of the DPR and LPR? And which are actual on February 24 or those that are spelled out in Russian, including decisions about the borders of the former Lugansk and Donetsk regions? I really already think that the future of the Russian Crimea is in question, and not only the Crimea, I myself understand as a Kaliningrad, how fragile the post-war boundaries are always, and therefore I look at it with horror and trepidation, because, I repeat, our country, our country, our Fatherland remains ours, regardless of whether we take what is happening as a positive process or negative. We have no other homeland, and our homeland is literally in trouble. The trouble is called this special operation, and the trouble is called Vladimir Putin. How to get out of it - I would know, would live in Sochi, as they say. I think no one knows.
Wright: That is, it seems to you that everything, the point of no return is actually passed?
Kashin: Passed on the morning when Vladimir Putin announced a special operation. I am confident in this, and moreover-the main drama, well, here I am still a chemist, but at least they say that the smell of gas in the gas stove is specially strengthened by some additives so that people understand when a leak, so that you can sniff. And here is not this additive that allows you to sniff something, and it depresses-not only the liberals like to say “ah, the people approve of the war”, this is debatable, sociology is political science. Approves, does not approve - it does not matter. The main thing is that people, regardless of views, do not notice the point of no return. When we are talking about what Russia should do, we mean Russia the former, until the 24th. What she has already become - no one sees. These people - we see in the news, not Putin, but others. Mishustin, who speaks of “parallel imports”, or a story about gas, when Putin gives a political attitude to sell gas for rubles, and then it descends below and encounters a reality that Gazprombank and Gazprom try to soften somehow. The question is not how to behave to Russia, but what is Russia today and what is left of it.
Wright: Question from the audience. Good day. What is the position of the National Batten "Azov"? Is it true that this is the Kolomoisky project?
Kashin: I have no idea. Any conversations about how Ukraine is arranged there, they are probably interesting and fascinating, but they are in favor of the poor, because how it is arranged-I have no doubt that the battalion or, in my opinion, still the Azov regiment consists of unpleasant people who have tattoos with runes, like the Hero of Russia Utkin from Wagner, is also tattered, well, we understand such people. Surely they are disgusting, for sure they are villains, sadists, looters and all that. What should follow? What had to be erased from the face of the earth Mariupol, Volnovakha and other cities and prepare for a blow to Kyiv? I don't really think. Moreover - I do not think that Vladimir Putin has such a right. Why, why is this war now? Recently, there were terrible nightmare cadres of torture of our prisoners of war, and people say - now, now, why war, we are fighting these sadists, we venes. Well, let's say. But these videos appeared a week ago. And the previous four weeks did you fight for what? And the previous ones against biolaboratories that appeared two weeks ago. And to the biolaboratories? Here we unwind this tangle, and it turns out that the war had no initial goals. It seems that they talked about the protection of the Russians, but since it turns out that the Russians living in the Ukrainian territory are not very happy with Russian liberators, then, in fact, they already need to look away here. Moreover, the liberation of the Russians by the forces of those people whom, well, my generation remembers a little in another context-bearded men in camouflage, screaming Allah Akbar-they are unlikely to be more Russians than some of our familiar friends living in Ukrainian cities. And in fact, I don’t know how an ideological audience we have, I would offer her to think-friends, calling myself right, but at the same time having some poorly formulated idea that is above your personality (I constantly hear-“people die, but how else, you can’t help but die in the war. But ...” you don’t think, with such an attitude, when the idea is added to the personality and human Life, are you really left? Like Lenin, from which Ukraine, according to Vladimir Putin, began. For me, the discovery, how many right are the left today.
Wright: Oleg Vladimirovich, I will allow myself to argue a little with you, because it seems to me that, we will call her so, the war inside some kind of protonation, prone state-the Principality of Moscow fought with Novgorod, Russian on both sides, we recognize that the battle in 1471 is good, and the victory over Novgorod united in many ways Russians, and they were not graphic and gradual captive of the princes. were completely peaceful. Or, for example, the siege of Smolensk how many times. Smolensk regiments how many times went beyond the Poles.
Kashin: Let's continue this storyline. The capture of a skew by a comrade Budenen is also a positive result, because they united the whole country under a red banner, and those who were from the point of view of the Soviet regime, well, are not reversing, of course, by highness - those, in fact, were thrown into the sea, arranged a Russian outcome positive from a Soviet point of view. Yes, indeed, maybe the right parallels adjusted that the century is still not the fifteenth, and probably the idea of humanism is now a little different-probably. But this is a civil war. Russia has now unleashed a civil war. And the fact that while it is on the other side of the very conditional Russian-Ukrainian border does not mean that the further course of the war will not be transferred to the inside. We do not know how this will end, and we do not know who will kill whom in a year and in which city. Until the 24th, the problem of the Civil War, which Ukrainians were very categorical and in places Krinzhovo denied, was inside Ukraine. Classical Civil War, the confrontation of one part of the country with the other. Yes, these pro -Russian separatists in the Donbass, of course, were patronized by the Russian Federation, but it was not a subject of war, and in this sense, Russia had some moral advantage when the central authority in Kyiv tried to suppress the separatists, especially in the first, most terrible years of this confrontation. And among other things, in addition to the fact that Vladimir Putin just so much in the fire of the economy, culture, and so on, he sacrificed this moral advantage, because in the conditions when all our Soviet and Putin culture of perception of history is based on the fact that the 1941 war is our good, Hitler is bad, and why bad is a treacherous attack. Who attacked is the bad. And who attacked now, and who attacked whom? Any conversation about what was happening during this war-the Ukrainians did something bad, arrested Tkachev in Odessa, or political scientist of Torbinsky, any event of the war-well, villains, fools, as you like, but who attacked someone? This is a key question, the final question. I attacked without real reasons, because all the reasons that we heard, they are ridiculous, denazification and demilitarization, ”the Russian Federation attacked. Attacked Ukraine. Before the attack, one could say who is right and who is wrong. After the attack, the answer is unequivocal, the Russian Federation is wrong.
At one time, I wrote a lot about how important it is to separate Russia and the Russian people from the Russian Federation, from this, quoting partly Molotov, the ugly brainchild of the Belovezhsky agreement, because the Russian Federation is far from the fact that it can seriously claim to be the heiress of historical Russia. She is the heiress of the RSFSR, here is the Soviet republic of the bastard, the most unfortunate, which the Bolsheviks imposed on us. Without its power, without its culture, without media, without nothing, such a stump, a non -chernozem. Unfortunately, this non -chernozemok was too great to consider too great a continuation of the Russian Empire, but no, but no.
We are talking about our culture, but what is our culture, if not an experience of a child's tear? And this tear is already spilled through the fault of the Russian Federation, unfortunately. All the same, you are worse for your own, but yours turned out to be scurrying. Of course, this is sad, sad and difficult, this is not an occasion to be discharged from the Russians. Well, yes, unlucky, and on a historical scale was not lucky. But we have not been lucky many times, therefore, maybe, maybe there is nothing like that.
Wright: You wrote in early March: "People directly reconfigure massively - well, such a new life, what to do." What do you think, what is it, this new life?
Kashin: Well, she is literally like this, and probably, her signal publication, Farid Rustamov, there is such a journalist, she writes about the mood of people in the presidential administration, in the government, in the State Duma, there is no names there, but, in general, the elite is political, people are rally around Putin and they say that since we are crushed, we will only be stronger. I fix the change in moods - this is my main leitmotif of this month, because it really amazes how the same people, relatively speaking, feel crushed on even days and life is over, and their eyes are light up and they say - now we’ll reach Lviv and everything will be fine. And this is rather in total, since too different moods in the same people indicate collective depression or something close to it when the mood from hysteria is such a joyful way to terrible longing and vice versa.
We don't know.
It won't.
